Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City is located in the Kailali District, Seti Zone of Far Western Development Region, Nepal. It was established in 2033 B.S as Dhangadhi Municipality and promoted to Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City from 2072/06/01. It is located at an altitude of 109 m above sea level and 750 KM from Kathmandu, the capital City of Nepal. Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City is divided into 19 wards. It is geographically plain and occupies a total area of 271.74 Sq. KM. It is surrounded by Kailari Rural Municipality in the east, Mohana River in the west, Godawari and Gauriganga Municipality in the north, and India in the south.
According to the preliminary data of the National Census 2021, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City has a total population of 2,04,788 with 32,249 households and 46,670 family population. Out of the total population, 1,02,334 are male and 1,02,454 are female.
